THE HIDDEN ROME
Private Walking Tour ( 4 hours - 260 € )
A fascinating “snapshot” of an epoch that represented the birth of Christian Rome, risen from the ruins of an Empire.
Walking together with a local is the most efficient way to discover areas and places off the beaten path that most travellers miss. As a Roman born-and-bred, I decided to share one of my preferred strolls in Rome with all my guests to avoid crowds and to breathe the true roman spirit. Starting from the breathtaking view of the Eternal City offered by the Orange Garden, one of the most evocative places in Rome, you will admire the enchanting beauty of Santa Sabina, a rare example of a perfectly preserved 5th century church. Retracing our steps, walking in the peaceful atmosphere of the Aventine, the so-called Colle della Poesia (Hill of the Poetry), we will first reach the Circus Maximus, the largest public entertainment building of antiquity, then the 8th century church of S. Maria in Cosmedin. where is the “Mouth of Truth” made popular by the film “Roman Holiday”. Furthermore, once we have crossed the Jewish Quarter with the ruins of the Portico of Octavia and the imposing Theater of Marcellus (dating back to the period of Emperor Augustus), we will cross the oldest bridge in Rome to reach the Tiber Island, one of the most beautiful places in Rome, and then conclude in the medieval Roman neighborhood of Trastevere, which is worth visiting, where you can literally immerse yourself in the ancient charm of this bohemian neighborhood of Rome, with its picturesque streets, important Roman churches (such as Santa Maria in Trastevere) and delicious local trattorias. |

This tour was absolutely phenomenal. When we first arrived in Rome, we were a little put off by the hustle and bustle, but Dino showed us a different side of the city. The crowds dwindled as we explored the beauty of the Rose Garden and the Orange Garden. Crossing the river into Trastevere, we felt like we were in a typical small Italian village, it was marvelous. Dino was superb, both welcoming and extremely knowledgeable. It was as if an old friend was showing us around. He really made us feel welcome. Roxana S., Canada
We met Dino for two tours, and this was our family favourite - suiting parents and also four teenagers. Dino is very knowledgeable about Rome's incredible history, and this tour enabled us to see the city from multiple angles, and really get a feel not just for the ancient stories and side of Rome but also to get a better feel for the flow of daily life in some less known but very central neighborhoods. We also enjoyed just chatting with Dino and even learned some 'classic' Italian hand gestures! Brett G., UK
Dino...Excellent guide with extensive knowledge of the historical/cultural aspects of the city and its developement over the centuries....Without hesitation would recommend Dino to anyone who desires an in depth perspective of the eternal city.
