Hadrian's Villa (Villa Adriana) is complex of over 30 buildings, covering an area of 250 acres (120 hectares) of which much is still unexcavated. It was built in the 2nd century AD at the request of the Emperor Hadrian in Tivoli - holiday location during the Roman Empire, as an idealistic representation of a city where Egyptian, Greek and Roman architectural styles blend. Villa D'Este is a fine example of Renaissance architecture which symbolise the flowering of Renaissance culture. Beautiful gardens and hundreds of fountains are the prime attraction of this gorgeous summer villa built in 1550 for Cardinal Ippolito D'Este, son of the infamous Lucrezia Borgia.
